Dewinterizing Your RV

Publish Date: Mar 16, 2021 Author: Ashley Rego Category: Tips

It's that time of year again! It's time to get your RV ready for Spring. If it's something you're wanting to take into your own hands, it's important to know how to properly dewinterize your RV.

You have two options when dewinterizing your RV and we're sharing them both with you.

Option 1: Using your fresh water tank.

1. Fill your tank to about 1/3 of the way.
2. If equipped, turn your water pump bypass to normal flow.
3. Turn on your pump.
4. Open every tap one at a time until all the anti-freeze and bubbles are flushed out.
5. Repeat this for every tap, toilet, shower and low point drains.
6. If your unit is equipped with an ice maker, make sure to turn it on. Keep in mind, the first couple of trays will need to be discarded until your ice cubes are completely clear.
7. Once all the antifreeze is flushed, the bypass on your water heater can be put in the "normal operation" position.
8. Fill your water heater and keep one hot water tap open until all the air from the water heater escapes and a steady stream of water is present.
9. Open all taps one at a time to make sure all the air has been evacuated from the lines.
10. Drain all of your tanks and your unit is ready for use!

Option 2: Using a city water hookup.

1. Hook up your city water hose to the city water outlet on your unit.
2. Turn on the water from the source.
3. Open every tap one at a time until all the antifreeze and bubbles are flushed out.
4. Repeat this for every tap, toilet, shower, and low point drains.
5. If your unit is equipped with an ice maker, make sure you turn it on. Keep in mind, the first couple of trays will need to be discarded until your ice cubes are completely clear.
6. Once all the antifreeze is flushed, the bypass on your water heater can be put in the "normal operation" position.
7. Fill your water heater and keep one hot water tap open until all the air from the water heater escapes and a steady stream of water is present.
8. Open all taps one at a time to make sure all the air has been evacuated from the lines.
9. Drain all your tanks and your unit is ready for use!
