It's not a surprise that gas prices have skyrocketed and it's not looking like we're getting a break any time soon. So, to help combat the rise in gas prices, we've compiled some helpful tips on how you can save on fuel in your RV.
Do a maintenance check.
Before you leave for any trip, make sure to do a maintenance check, either yourself or schedule something with a local RV service shop. Make sure to check things like your tire pressure, seams and sealants as well as dirty air filters. A dirty air filter can trigger your engines computer to compensate by increasing the amunt of fuel injected into the cylinders.
Lighten your load.
Cut back on gas costs by only taking what you need with you. Keeping your vehicle as light as possible is fuel efficient. Travelling light is all about priorities. You don't have to ditch your favourite toys if it's something you know you'll use - but it may be worth the cost. There may be other items you might find aren't as important and you can leave them behind.
Drive slowly for better mileage.
Fast driving can quickly drain your tank. Keep your speed steady by driving the speed limit and take it easy when you come to stops. Maintain consistent speed between 55 to 60 miles per hour and you'll notice a dramatic decrease.
Camp locally and extend your stay.
You can still enjoy a great outdoor adventure without having to drive too far to do it. There are so many beautiful places right in your own backyard. Once you arrive at your destination, stay an extra few nights and make your stay worthwhile.
Sign up for fuel loyalty programs.
There are so many loyalty programs that help you save money on fuel. Go to your local gas station and see what they have to offer. For example, Costco offers it's members gas at a premium price and Esso offers it's customers their Esso Fuel Loyalty Program.
